Abstract

The development of social media has broughtsignificant changes to students’ socialinteraction patterns within the campusenvironment. Social media functions not onlyas a communication tool but also as a spacefor identity formation, social relations, andacademic as well as non-academicparticipation. This study aims tocomprehensively analyze the effects of socialmedia on students’ social interactions, bothpositive and negative. The research methodemploys a qualitative descriptive approachthrough a literature review of relevant books, academic journals, and research reports. The findings indicate that social media providespositive impacts such as ease ofcommunication, expansion of socialnetworks, increased academic participation, and strengthened student solidarity. However, excessive use of social media mayreduce the quality of face-to-faceinteractions, promote individualisticbehavior, and trigger various psychosocialproblems. Therefore, digital literacy andwise management of social media use are essential to support healthy and constructivesocial interactions among students in thecampus environment.
