Abstract

The development of digital technology has increased access to images available on the internet, but also poses challenges in protecting intellectual property rights (IPR). Many parties use images without permission for economic gain, which can harm the rights holder. This article discusses legal protection for IPR owners for images taken from the internet in the context of Indonesian law. Based on Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright, rights holders have exclusive rights to their creative works, including economic rights. However, the rampant violations, both intentional and unintentional, require strengthening of legal protection and enforcement of sanctions. This study found that protection mechanisms through civil lawsuits and criminal charges still face obstacles, such as lack of legal awareness and weak supervision. Therefore, educational efforts and stricter policies are needed to ensure effective protection for rights holders. Therefore, synergy is needed between the government, industry players, and the community in building a digital ecosystem that respects intellectual property rights.
